Metamorphosis
What Ails You? Trauma, Toxins, and Intrusive Energy
One of the main things I’ve learned in my 20 years of being a therapist is we humans are way more complicated than I ever thought possible. I knew studying the mind would be like studying space - some final frontier with plenty of nooks and crannies left to discover that could change the way we think about our world. But I had no idea how true that would end up being.
The first thing that became clear to me as I embarked on my career is that almost every client I came across had some sort of traumatic background. This ranged from a profound sense of alienation to outright abuse and horrific neglect, but the pattern was clear: early childhood trauma seemed to be present in almost every person I saw, no matter what diagnosis code they “qualified” for. I soon lost interest in diagnosis codes all together. They just didn’t seem to matter much. Trauma was at the root of all of it. So I turned my attention to specializing in treating trauma.
I felt I was beginning to understand people more as I looked through the lens of trauma. It could explain so much: the irrational thoughts, the intense fears and emotions, the maladaptive behavior. But there were always some things that it just didn’t explain. For example, trauma couldn’t explain why a client from a loving, healthy family had such intense anxiety and irrational fears. Where did all that fear come from, if they experienced love and connection as a child? And why was another client’s sibling a psychopath, when they insisted their parents were not abusive or neglectful in any way? Clearly there was more to the picture than just trauma.
I began to research nutrition and how diet and physical health issues could impact our mental and emotional state. I learned that a vitamin B-12 deficiency can mimic psychosis. If that’s possible, what else is possible? Insight into the gut-brain connection began to gather speed, and people began to realize that our gut is our “second brain.” Probiotics flew off the shelves as people tried to balance their gut microbiome in the hopes of stabilizing both physical and mental health. And there is definitely an important connection here. When a client who would have been diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder says her binging behavior disappeared overnight the moment she went on a Keto diet and eliminated processed carbs, you begin to wonder how many other diagnoses have a physical health root. How many mental health symptoms would disappear with a healthy diet and balanced microbiome?
Researching nutrition led me to explore other factors in our environment that have a detrimental effect on our mental health. Everything from toxins in our food and water to the toxic overload of Electromagnetic Radiation has been linked to mental health symptoms. I learned that while cities were first being electrified in the late 1800s, citizens in Europe and the US were reporting not only physical health issues as a result but also a condition called “neurasthenia,” which we might call anxiety today. With every invention which dumped more and more Electromagnetic Radiation into our environment, like radio waves, radar, and wi-fi, mental health symptoms of anxiety, depression, fatigue, weakness, brain fog, and insomnia increased as well.
As if studying the mind, with its vast unknown territory of what we call the subconscious, wasn’t complicated enough, I’d now have to understand the complexities of the human body, nutrition, and the environment to fully understand mental health? Things were getting really complex now. And then came an unexpected factor out of left field: my husband began to undergo an intense spiritual awakening at the same time I was taking a transpersonal hypnotherapy program. I wanted to understand how to explore that vast territory of the subconscious, right? So I thought a program to teach me hypnotherapy would be helpful. Little did I know that I would learn about the influence of demonic entities, discarnate spirits, and past lives on our mental health. The massive world of “energy” opened up and threw me down a rabbit hole so unbelievable, ironically I tethered myself to the DMS diagnosis codes and my knowledge that, yes, I was qualified to diagnosis myself or my husband with schizophrenia, and no, we didn’t have it, to keep myself from thinking we were going crazy.
Learning that the metaphysical universe is real because you are having experiences of it is quite a profound revelation. For example, when an intense fear arose in me the first time my daughter had a cavity, and the irrational thought that she was going to die invaded my mind for two days, I went to my husband to see what he could do. By this time I had tried to regulate this intense fear with all of my traditional therapy tools, but to no avail. It only took my husband 10 minutes to alleviate my fear: he could “see” with his third eye the energetic cord that connected my current fear with several past lives that were being activated where I had lost children. My daughter’s cavity had triggered my past life trauma. With his healing energy he cleared the cord and the fear from those past lives, and the intense fear I was feeling completely disappeared. How many hours of therapy would it have taken me to clear that energy, and he did it in 10 minutes!? The implications of this were so colossal, I’m still processing it.
So then I had to incorporate all of the various energetic factors that contribute to our mental health, on top of the complicated picture I was already aware of. If not for the knowledge I had acquired from my hypnotherapy program, my husband and I might not have known how to make sense of it all. But never once did I think of denying anything for simplicity’s sake. I want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So I threw myself into studying metaphysics and the literature on near death experiences, reincarnation, and spirit possession. It turns out, energetic influences have a major impact on mental health issues. And it was here that I found some compelling answers to my most pressing questions: where are the mental health symptoms coming from if a client has no trauma background? Well, we all have plenty of trauma in our past lives that can be triggered at any point in our current life. Not to mention there is the galling and unpredictable impact of karma. And it just might be that psychopaths are demonically possessed, or said another way, so full of dark energy they act out that negativity in our world. The nature of psychopaths and demons are exactly the same. Traditional psychology doesn’t have a better answer.
So as I stand back and look at this picture, a few things emerge. Healing requires a two-fold process: we need to get some bad stuff out of you, whether that be toxins, traumatic memories, or negative energetic influences; and we also need to get some good stuff in you, such as positive thinking, healthy food, and healing energy or Light. That seems simple enough: bad out, good in. And healing is best when it is complete, incorporating all four aspects of our being: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual/energetic. If you leave out any of these aspects, you could be missing an important opportunity for complete healing. I definitely don’t feel like I have all the answers as to how to heal mental health issues. But I have much more knowledge than I did 20 years ago. And my research and experience have taken me way outside of the traditional psychotherapy “box.” I have found that when Truth is your highest value, you often find yourself taking the road less traveled. Which is just as well. What else could someone who wants to explore the final frontier expect?
